Anthropic Extends Claude 5 Access Until July 19

The free access to Claude Fable 5 will stay available to paid subscribers until July 19, 2026, at 11:59:59 PM PT, according to a recent support document.

Extension details and eligibility

The company first scheduled the promotion to end on July 7, 2026, then moved it to July 12, and finally to July 19. These changes indicate the firm is still measuring its computing capacity and demand while shaping a longer‑term pricing plan.

Eligible plans cover Claude Pro, Max, and Team subscriptions, as well as premium seats on seat‑based Enterprise plans that have enabled Fable 5 access. The offer excludes free users, standard Enterprise seats, usage‑based Enterprise plans, and API usage.

Under the promotion, subscribers may use Fable 5 for up to half of their weekly subscription limits at no extra cost. The model appears across all Claude interfaces—web, mobile, desktop, Cowork, Code, Design, as well as Microsoft 365, Teams integrations, and Claude Tag.

When users reach the 50 % threshold of their weekly Fable 5 allowance, they can continue with usage credits billed separately or switch to another Claude model such as Opus 4.8, Sonnet 5, or Haiku, staying within the remaining plan limits.

Usage limits and alternatives

The firm notes that Fable 5 consumes its weekly allowance faster than other Claude models. Heavy users may see the 50 % cap hit earlier in the week, so planning usage is advisable.

For those who exhaust the allocation, Sonnet 5 offers near‑Opus performance at a lower price point—$2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens through August 31, 2026—making it a practical fallback.

To select Fable 5, users simply choose the model from the picker on Claude’s web, desktop, or mobile apps. Claude Code requires an update to version 2.1.170 or later, and Claude Cowork users must install the latest Claude Desktop application. No separate activation step is needed; the model shares the same weekly usage pool as other Claude offerings.

The model will not be permanently removed from subscriptions. The firm intends to reinstate Fable 5 once it secures enough computing capacity for sustainable support. This temporary measure bridges the gap while pricing strategy and capacity constraints are refined.

While the promotion continues, the company’s history of deadline extensions suggests further delays could occur if demand outpaces supply. No guarantee has been offered for extensions beyond July 19.

From a practical standpoint, the extension gives paid users a window to evaluate whether Fable 5’s higher capabilities justify its faster consumption of quota.

Next steps for subscribers

Subscribers should monitor weekly usage to avoid unexpected charges once the 50 % limit is reached. Those whose workflows do not require the specific strengths of Fable 5 may consider switching to Sonnet 5 or Opus 4.8 ahead of the deadline.

The firm has not set a date for when Fable 5 will return to standard subscription pricing. Users are encouraged to check the support documentation and status page for updates on the promotional timeline or future pricing changes.

The current free access period ends at the specified deadline, and while past extensions suggest flexibility, no further extensions have been confirmed.
