Enterprise SSDs drive nearly half of NAND use

Enterprise SSDs now consume 48% of global NAND flash supply, according to a recent study by Counterpoint Research. This shift is largely driven by the growing demand for high-performance storage solutions in AI operations, particularly in hyperscale facilities.
These types of solid-state storage products are used to cache massive datasets required for AI inference workloads. As a result, companies manufacturing NAND flash chips and enterprise SSDs are feeling the impact of this shift in the industry.
Big Tech companies are looking to leverage high-capacity, high-performance storage solutions to support their AI operations, which is driving the demand for enterprise SSDs. The trend is expected to have a significant impact on the NAND flash industry, with manufacturers realigning their production capacity to meet the needs of AI startups and hyperscale operations.
Samsung retained its position as the largest NAND flash maker, with a 25% market share, while SK Hynix came second with a 22% share. SK Hynix benefited from a year-over-year increase in shipments from its subsidiary Solidigm.
Chinese maker Yangtze Memory Technologies saw a 22% increase in shipments, capturing 14% of the NAND flash market. Yangtze Memory Technologies is currently expanding its domestic operations, producing 267-layer 3D NAND chips based on its proprietary Xtacking technology.

Kioxia ranked third with 14% of NAND shipments, while Micron and SanDisk followed with 13% and 11% of the market, respectively. However, Counterpoint warns that shipment volumes don’t necessarily translate into actual revenue.
For companies like Yangtze Memory Technologies, the focus is on expanding production to meet the growing demand for enterprise SSDs, which is driven by the AI-driven spending boom.
