Huawei adds 10x optical zoom camera module
Huawei plans to enhance its Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition with a new accessory, the Ruiying Z10 external camera module. This add-on is anticipated to accompany the phone’s 16GB RAM and 1TB storage variant. The module, recently teased on Weibo, extends the device’s photography capabilities beyond its built-in camera system.
The Ruiying Z10 is not a built-in phone camera, but a separate accessory with its own image sensor, working like other standalone camera modules. It attaches to the phone and adds photography capabilities that couldn’t fit inside a slim smartphone body.
The module features a 1-inch sensor, capturing more light than typical phone sensors, with a physical focal length ranging from 9.1mm to 91mm, equivalent to 24mm through 240mm, offering 10x optical zoom. The aperture ranges from f/2.0 to f/4.5, using an electrically powered zoom mechanism.

The optical system includes special glass elements called Red Maple Lens, a proprietary optical coating that helps deliver more accurate colors and reduce unwanted glare. The module’s design is described as creative and luxurious, though specific materials and dimensions have not been revealed.
The Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition is one of five planned models in the Mate 90 series, expected to launch as early as late September 2026, featuring a 50MP main camera, a 40MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 200MP periscope telephoto lens, along with support for XMAGE image processing.
The Ruiying Z10 builds on the phone’s camera system, focusing on delivering high-quality telephoto zoom by separating part of the optical system from the phone itself, offering a longer focal length without needing to fit the entire mechanism inside the smartphone’s thin body.
