iQOO 16 Launches in China with Gaming-Focused Upgrades

The iQOO 16, a new flagship smartphone targeting gamers, has launched in China. According to reports, it showcases this year’s top Android configuration. Sales began immediately after its evening launch, marking a significant update to the brand’s gaming-focused lineup.

The device features a 2K display with a 165Hz refresh rate, up from 144Hz in the previous model. It uses Samsung’s M16 material and 2K LEAD version 2.0 technology. Global peak brightness has increased from 2,600 to 2,800 nits, while local peak brightness has jumped from 6,000 to 10,000 nits in limited areas, enhancing visibility in high-contrast scenes.

iQOO’s Q-flex touch technology boosts the instantaneous touch sampling rate from 3,200 to 5,000 Hz and multi-touch from 360 to 500 Hz. The company claims improved touch optimization through direct integration with the gaming engine, though real-world performance remains to be independently tested.

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, the phone offers a 5.01 GHz clock speed and a new-generation Monster gaming engine. The Q4 gaming chip promises 15% higher performance, a 19% faster cache, and 19% better AI performance, leveraging its three-core architecture for enhanced efficiency.

Battery capacity has increased to 8,400 mAh, a 20% jump from the iQOO 15’s 7,000 mAh. Charging remains at 100W wired and 40W wireless. Cooling improvements include a 6% larger vapor chamber (from 8,000 mm² to 8,500 mm²), a 41% increase in cooling gel area, and a 20% expansion of graphite layers.

Gaming features include virtual point light source technology, an 8K gaming camera, and streaming tools like super-resolution and ray tracing. A partnership with Douyin reduces screen tap noise during streaming, enhancing the viewer experience.

The iQOO 16 features a square camera module called “Tomorrow’s Porthole” with three 50MP sensors, including a periscope telephoto lens. It comes in Chasing Light, Legend, and Racing Track colors, with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, catering to both gamers and power users.

The phone’s focus on display, gaming performance, and battery life positions it as a strong contender in the gaming smartphone market.
